This tab is intended for live performance by a band with a single electric guitar.
So it's got to be convincing, atmospheric and easy to play.
"Free Falling" is in F and you need to have a 'ringing' F (and sometimes C also).
The only sensible way to do this is to use open strings.
Therefore, PUT A CAPO ON THE FIRST FRET before starting.
(If you want to play it in E without a capo, subtract 1 from the fret numbers.)
The song uses the same three chords all the way through - F, Bflat and Csus4 -
though to change the feel during verses you can change the Bflat to BflatSus9.
INTRO and CHORUS:
IMPORTANT: CAPO on 1st FRET
O = open string (i.e. fret 1)
--O----O-------O---O---O-----
--O----11------11--O---8-----
--14---10------10--14--9-----
--15---12------12--15--10----
--x----------------x---x-----
-----------------------------
Alternative for VERSES ONLY:
IMPORTANT: CAPO on 1st FRET
O = open string (i.e. fret 1)
--O----O-------O---O---O-----
--O----O-------O---O---O-----
--2----7-------7---2---9-----
--3----8-------8---3---10----
--3----8-------8---3---10----
--O----O-------O---O---O-----
The third finger stays in contact with the 4th string throughout the whole song.
I use a light flange followed by light chorus for stage work, Les Paul treble pickup.
Enjoy!
